’Indicator Land’ maps
Posted on 14 September 2011
There has been an explosion of interest in indicator projects over the last several years, both in Australia and around the world. These are projects aim to measure societal and community progress and wellbeing.
So far, we have identified around 70 projects of this kind internationally and around 50 projects in Australia. These range in scope from a focus on local communities to state-wide and national level initiatives. The maps put together by the ABS illustrate the proliferation of interest in this area and provide links to the projects we have identified.
As part of the MAP 2.0 consultation, the ABS aims to to encourage coordination among the many other indicator projects being undertaken, and provide assistance to these projects. This will not only reduce the cost and effort put in by communities and governments but also improve the comparability and usefulness of the statistics produced to allow us to learn from each other and better measure progress in Australia.
These maps continue to grow every day, and they are not intended to provide a definitive list by any means. Rather, their purpose is to give an indication of some of the key different kinds of wellbeing, population sustainability and progress projects.
If you know of a project you think should be on these maps please email Imogen Wall and let us know about it We can't guarantee all projects will appear on the map, but we will keep a comprehensive list of the projects mentioned to us.
