What are other federal government departments doing? - full post
Posted on 20 September 2011
The field of wellbeing indicators and measuring progress is getting bigger and bigger, with a range of new players entering this field every day. This also includes federal departments (apart from us!). Here is some information on just a few of them.
One of the departments that is developing indicators with help from us is the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (SEWPaC - pronounced 'sew' (like sewing) 'pack').
SEWPaC conducted a consultation late last year on developing a Sustainable Population Strategy for Australia, and this was released in May. The ABS is assisting SEWPaC in developing its indicators. For example, we are providing guidance on data sources and methodology.
Another initiative of SEWPaC is the State of the Environment Report. The aim of the report is to provide information on the "current condition of the environment; the pressures on it and the drivers of those pressures...". The 2011 report is due to be release later this year.
The Department Infrastructure and Transport released the State of Australia's Cities. As Australia is "one of the world's more urbanised nations, with just over three-quarters of the population living in 17 major cities of 100,000 people or more", our cities play a major role in the progress and wellbeing of most Australians. The report aims to track the progress of our cities.
We have collected together some other information about the activities of federal departments on our 'Progress Pie' - for example, the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet's work on Social Inclusion.
Do you know of other federal government initiative around this topic?
