Carmel Tebbutt has been a member of Parliament since 1998 and Deputy Premier since September 2008. Carmel has the unique experience of serving as a member in both the Legislative Council and the Legislative Assembly, where she has been the Member for Marrickville since 2005.

In addition to her role as Deputy Premier, Carmel is the Minister for Health.

Carmel considers health to be a critical portfolio and looks forward to working with the committed and dedicated doctors, nurses, allied health staff and administrators, to ensure patients are at the centre of the NSW health system.

Carmel has previously worked in human services portfolios – including Education and Community Services – and brings a wide range of experience to the position.
